Football: Early Goals Can Net Some Profits

Portsmouth betting odds for promotion

It’s the international break, so not too many domestic games to choose from with a few games in League One and League Two. Here’s a look at a couple…

It’s second against third in League Two tomorrow with Burton Albion hosting second placed Oxford United. Both sides are on 11 points from 5 games, winning 3 and drawing too. In those five games Oxford have managed scored 12 goals, whilst conceding 6. With Burton having scored 9 and conceded 6. The stats suggest that there should be goals. In each of Oxford’s five games, both teams have scored so the 8/11 (Stan James) on offer is a pretty average price for this market.

Burton have only kept two cleansheets in their five league games, one of which was last weeks win against bottom side Accrington Stanley. This is a game that is definitely one for your ‘Both Team To Score’ accumulator. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 10/11 (generally). The market that is most appealing with value is Over 1.5 Goals in the first half, which can be backed at 2/1, 9 of 15 goals that Burton have been involved have been scored in the first half.

Oxford have been involved in 6 goals in the first half in their opening five league games, which averages at 1.2 goals in the first half, with Burton games averaging at almost 2.

Also in League Two, Portsmouth travel to fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town. Both sides find themselves at the wrong end of the table, despite expectations of them being higher up in the league. Portsmouth were heavy favourites to go straight back up, but things haven’t been as straight forward as they had liked and both sides have conceded too many in the opening encounters.

Portsmouth have been involved in a couple of 2-2 draws and overall have conceded 10. Goals haven’t been that hard to come by with them netting 8 times. Cheltenham are in similar position with conceding 11. It’s a big game even at this early stage of the season. Both sides won’t want to fall to far behind the playoffs places.

Both Teams To Score is trading at 8/11 (Bet Victor), which again is the standard price for a both teams to score bet, it’s another game to be considered for that Saturday morning coupon. Out of Pompeys 8 goals scored, 6 of them have been in the first half. Cheltenham have conceded 8 goals in the first half, so first half goals looks to be the key.

The highest scoring half market is interesting for this game, with first half to have more goals trading at 11/5, which seems a good price looking at the stats. Portsmouth can be backed at 5/4 (Sporting Bet) to score over 0.5 goals in the first half which looks a very good price. Over 1.5 first half goals is currently trading at 2/1.

The first half was the highest scoring half also which i stated in the Cheltenham/Portsmouth game. Portsmouth have now scored 10 goals this season with 8 being in the first half.

So Portsmouth scoring after 5 minutes helped the bets, then a further two goals were scored in the first half to secure over 1.5 goals in the first half. +2.25pts from the three bets.
