2.40 – Haydock – Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase – 2m 6f
Despite the mild and dry weather across the country the ground at the Lancashire track looks sure to be on the testing side as it was last year.
That kind of terrain will suit plenty of these including Upswing, De Vous A Moi, Corrin Wood and front-running Yala Enki.
The mare Kayfleur could be interesting from the very foot of the handicap as she has been crying out for a test like this, but there are also well handicapped entries in the form of the improving Trickaway and the mud-loving Courtown Oscar.
3.00 – Ascot – Lavazza Jolie Silver Cup Handicap Chase – 3m
This valuable staying handicap is always well contested which is not surprising with the prize money on offer.
There are any number of leading protagonists this year and the likely favourite could be the disappointing Go Conquer, ran well over 2m5f here behind Present Man and looks as though this step up in trip could help although this is a better event.
Fourth Act has promised to be a bit better than his first two starts this campaign. He is a relatively young horse that needs to clean up his jumping to land a nice prize this term.
We have yet to see the best of Northern raider Eduard (had training problems), while the likes of Irish Saint, Fletchers Flyer and the well weighted Triolo D’Alene (Henderson’s only entry) are also in the mix.
Extra….Extra….(Paul Jacob’s free inside stable info…)
UN TEMPS POUR TOUT reverts to hurdles after blowing out in the Hennessy and this former French Champion Hurdler has been underrated in the market place and could be worth an each-way play in the Long Walk at Ascot (2.25).
The 3.35 at Ascot is a good renewal of the old Ladbroke and I know GOLDEN SPEAR is very strongly fancied by the Tony Martin camp. 11/2 isn’t a massive price in such a big field, but he is the best news I have in the race.
There is a really interesting piece of news for INDIAN BRAVE in the 12.05 at Newcastle. Neil Mulholland feels he is an out and out stayer and he has a real chance of opening his account here at the main expense of the penalised Kimberlite Candy.
